Empowerment
Tip #2: Take Control of Your Life Now
Assess: Take a step back and assess where you are spending your time in a day (work, self care, family, etc.)
Measure: Keep a journal and write down where you are spending your time and rate each activity from 1-10 of how much enjoyment it gives you. (eg. 10 hours of work=3; 1 hour with family=10; 0 hours of exercise=10).
Explore: Start to look for areas and opportunities where you can spend more time on what gives you the most enjoyment and sense of control.
Act: Take action to increase the things you want to change.
Why it works: Science shows that people who believe they can control the quality of their lives tend to be happier and healthier. That is because they make responsible and healthier choices and focus on what they can control. In contrast, others who believe that successful outcomes in life are external and random feel more helpless and less motivated to make change.
